Dogs are considered by many to be “man’s best friend;” however, due to different situations they are exposed to or the way they were trained, dogs can sometimes act out violently toward people. In the United States, around 4 million people suffer from a dog bite each year. In many cases, a compensation or legal proceeding can be made by law against the animal’s owner, depending on the injury and the state in which the unfortunate accident occurred. Here are some of the successful cases Grupo MedLegal has recently represented:
Trenton, New Jersey: On April 16, while washing his vehicle in his driveway, a man was injured when a bull terrier dog passing by broke loose from his owner and attacked the man, knocking him to the ground and biting his right hand.
New York, New York: On May 3, while delivering mail, a postal worker suffered injuries to his back and right thigh when he was attacked by a Doberman at a residence since the fence where the dog was kept was not closed properly.
Los Angeles, California: On June 14, while walking on an avenue through his neighborhood, a young teen suffered severe injuries to his right foot when two pit bulls suddenly appeared from a private property and began to assault him. While trying to escape, the boy ran and jumped a fence, but his foot stuck and the dogs nearly destroyed it.
Chicago, Illinois: On March 18, upon arriving in a private property for a plumbing job, a contractor was injured on his left arm when the family’s German Shepherd escaped from the yard where it was enclosed and attacked the worker. The family provided ambulance service but did not offer to pay the plumber’s medical expenses.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin: On November 21, while on a morning jog through the neighborhood, a young man was injured in the calf of his right leg when he passed by a home and the neighbor’s loose dog jumped on top of him. He tried to negotiate with the owner of the dog that attacked him, but instead of providing medical treatment and the dog’s information, the dog’s owner hid the dog and verbally assaulted the injured person.
