ICE will begin immigration raids nationwide on Sunday
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service plans to carry out nationwide immigration raids postponed a few weeks ago to arrest immigrant families with deportation orders, according to one official.
Trump and the raids announcement
This measure was delayed by Donald Trump a couple of weeks ago when he wrote in his Twitter account:
At the request of Democrats, I have delayed the Illegal Immigration Removal Process (Deportation) for two weeks to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border. If not, Deportations start!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) 22 de junio de 2019
Coupled with this decision, Trump is also trying to include the question about citizenship to the 2020 census, in defiance of the Supreme Court resolution.
The New York Times wrote that it is expected the raids will be carried out in at least 10 cities, “for several days” and will include “collateral” deportations in which “the authorities could arrest immigrants who were on the scene, although they were not objectives of the raids “.
The raids are expected to take place in Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York and San Francisco.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, reiterated her call to the evangelicals to intervene and urge the president not to carry out the ICE raids on Sunday.
